During the weekends, I tend to take better care of my skin and I enjoy pampering it by trying out DIY face masks or treatments. I love trying out home remedies and analyzing the results. I got the idea for this mask from Elle Fowler, who is one of the most famous YouTubers. Her YouTube name is: AllThatGlitters21. I called it a ‘Fall Mask’ because the ingredients are widely used in the fall and it’s appropriate for this time of year! And yes this mask smells just like fall!
This mask includes three ingredients: honey, cinnamon and nutmeg. Honey is amazing for your skin and is widely used in beauty products. It has natural antibacterial and anti-aging properties, and is known to moisturize and rejuvenate your skin. Honey also has the ability to absorb and retain moisture and this helps in keeping the skin well hydrated, fresh and supple. Interesting fact about honey: it can never spoil! They even found honey in the Pyramids!
Cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory properties and can stop acne-causing bacteria. Nutmeg is also anti-inflammatory and can help reduce the appearance of scars. This mask can calm your breakouts, and help reduce your blemishes and acne scars. You can use this as a mask or simply a spot treatment. Simply add it on any blemishes or acne scars.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- pinch of ground cinnamon
- pinch of ground nutmeg
- small bowl
Mix all of the ingredients together until they form a paste. It will look brown, gooey and sticky. Warning about this mask: the honey may drip onto your neck and clothes – so make sure that you’re not wearing a nice outfit! Also, I don’t usually measure the ingredients, I just eyeball it.
After applying the mask, leave it on your skin for around 20-30 minutes then rinse it with warm water. Make sure your face is already cleansed before applying the mask. I would recommend trying this mask once a week, as the results will not come instantly. If you want to apply the treatment on just the areas in which you need it, you can do that more often such as three times a week.
NOTE: I don’t recommend this mask if you have sensitive skin. If you’d like to try it, test it on a small area of your skin first. Or you can omit the cinnamon and nutmeg and simply enjoy the benefits of honey.
