Dressing for Work Guide featuring Blonde in Bahrain

As a working woman, I know how time-consuming it may be to dress for work. I know this because I often spend a lot of time staring at my closet searching for an outfit to wear for work. Then there are times when I can whip up an outfit in three minutes. In most professions, you have to dress formally and professionally. Lucky for me, I work at an agency where we don’t have to dress in formal suits daily. Our dress code is smart/casual, and we must always look presentable. However, we still must dress up for meetings with clients.

I was thrilled when Georgina from Blonde in Bahrain contacted me to collaborate on this feature. We met up last week at The Domain to discuss fashion and make-up for work. Over a delicious latte, I asked Georgina about her make-up tips for work.

1- What is your go-to work make-up?

Lots of sunscreen, foundation, a light smokey-eye and tinted lipgloss.

2- Which lip colors are most appropriate for work?

For me, it’s more about texture than colour. Sheer lipsticks and tinted glosses work best. Matte is usually too dry for all-day wear, and can be too high maintenance.

3- If you were running late to work and could only do one part of your make-up, what would it be?

Sunscreen! I get regular Fraxel laser treatments on my face, so I can’t step out of the house without it.

4- How long does it take you to get ready for work?

My make-up routine is simple and quick, and takes about 10 minutes.

5- What are some time-saver tricks you’ve learnt to get ready faster in the morning?

I have to admit, I usually save time by grabbing clothes that don’t need ironing! In terms of makeup, I store it in big transparent drawers, one for eyes, one for foundations, one for skin prep. This makes it really easy to find what I need.

6- How do you make your make-up last all day?

I use a primer under my foundation. I also carry around a mini-mirror – to make sure it’s perfect. It’s hard to feel your best with creased shadow and smudged liner!

Georgina also offered to apply some of her new Make Up Forever make-up on me! Check out our ‘make-up counter’ below!

The final make-up look

I really wanted to share with you three outfits I would wear to work. Hopefully this will inspire you to dress up for work!

Outfit 1 – Don’t be afraid to play with prints! But keep the rest of the look minimal such as this look below.

When it comes to nails, I would go for a neutral or classic shade that will suit every outfit – such as nude, pink, red, or a French mani! I have on Essie’s Demure Vixen – it’s a pretty mauve shade with a pearl essence. Daily nail polish changes? Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Tips for the Busy Working Woman:

1- Choose your outfit the night before, even if you mentally choose it (I often do this before bed!)

2- Prepare your ‘work’ bag the night before and make sure to include everything you need – your wallet, your files, notebooks, and if you have a building pass for instance!

3- Bring a small make-up bag or your lipstick to touch up throughout the day. Sometimes I’m in a hurry and I don’t get the chance to finish my make-up in the morning, so I just finish it while at work.

4- Keepy a blazer handy – if you’re dressed casually and find out you have an unexpected meeting, adding a blazer to your look can transform your outfit from casual to dressy!

5- Wear comfortable heels – Marks & Spencer have great heels that look fabulous and have cushioning that you can run around in all day! You can occasionally find great heels from Naturalizer and Clark’s too. My LK Bennett heels are also super comfortable! There’s a reason why the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton practically lives in them!
