May Hits & Misses

May hits and misses

Hi Bellas!

I’m changing things up this month… I usually post about my beauty favorites, but this month I noticed there were a few products I did not like, and wanted to share my hits and misses!

It’s no surprise to see LUSH products here (especially if you’re read about my recent LUSH haul). I’ve been loving “Let the Good Times Roll” facial cleanser. Not only does it smell delicious, but it cleanses my skin effectively. I’ve been exfoliating my face more frequently lately and Ocean Salt has made my skin soft and smooth! I’m also a huge fan of the lip scrubs. Lately I’ve been loving the Mint Julips lip scrub because the minty smell makes my lips feeling soft and fresh!

Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Naked Rose – This blusher is beautiful and I’ve been obsessed with it since I purchased it. I love the pigmentation of Illamasqua products, and what’s amazing about this blusher is that it’s the perfect pink which could look natural if lightly applied, or brighter for a gorgeous glow.

Beauty Blender – I’ve had a Beauty Blender for years but I’ve only started using it recently. I really love how my skin looks when I use it to apply foundation. All you have to do is dampen the sponge with water and add your foundation to it and lightly brush it on your skin. I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on my skin lately and it could just be due to this sponge!

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Cologne – If you’ve read my last month’s beauty favorites, you’ll know that I’ve been loving my Jo Malone candle in the same scent. I decided to buy the perfume because of the floral scent.

Rimmel Long Lasting Intense Color Balm in Keep Mauving –  I don’t like to apply lipstick daily so lately I’ve been applying this color balm. It’s quite pigmented so I really love how it looks on its own. The funny thing is that I later on bought a Clinique Color Balm which is quite similar. This Rimmel Color Balm is a great drugstore dupe of the Clinique one I purchased. I hadn’t noticed that the colors are very similar too!

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Color Balm in Roomiest Rose – I bought this product recently and I’ve been obsessed with it! It’s highly pigmented and moisturizing which is perfect for this weather! It’s more pigmented than the Rimmel Color Balm, yet still very similar. I will most probably buy more of these because sometimes a girl just doesn’t want that ‘lipstick feeling’ on her lips!

The Make up Store Gentle Eye Cleanser – There’s absolutely nothing gentle about this product! I was out of my beloved Bioderma Micelle Solution and instead of buying another bottle, I decided to try this new brand. I really didn’t like this product from the consistency to the way my eyes would feel. It irritated my eyes and didn’t remove my eye make-up efficiently. You can tell that this bottle is quite full as I just couldn’t use it more.

The Make up Store Blush Brush – I recently lost my favorite blush brush so I thought I would try a brush from this brand. This brand seemed very promising, but unfortunately this brush was a huge disappointment. I’ve only used it twice and it keeps bleeding (the brush hairs keep shedding). That’s the worst because the hairs stay put on your face.

The Make up Store Top Coat – Seche Vite is my favorite top coat and I recently ran out of it. I was in desperate need of a top coat so I picked this up. However, when I tried this top coat it made my nail polish extremely bubbly. I really don’t want to hate on this brand, but it’s unfortunate that these products have been such a disappointment. These products are also expensive so they really weren’t worth it.

Intraceuticals Rejuvenate Cleansing System – A few months ago I tried the Intraceuticals Oxygen Facial and I absolutely loved it. I had such a beautiful glow and my skin never looked better. Of course after the success of this facial, I was recommended to try this cleansing system in the travel size kit. Weeks after the facial I started to develop tiny white bumps on my cheeks (they’re not visible but I can feel them). Now I’m still not sure what the cause of the bumps were, but I started using this cleansing system and I noticed the bumps were still on my cheeks. I just don’t feel like this cleansing system made any difference in my skin. For the price (which I think it was 90 BD) it’s totally not worth it. You’re better off trying this facial every few months!

Hope you enjoyed this month’s hits and misses! Leave a comment below if you tried any of these products.

Oh my God !! I dont want to hate on the Make Up Store brand either, but I purchased a blush from there ( the store in Thailand) and it has absolutely no pigmentation and feels like chalk. Such a shame because there products look promising :(

Oh that’s a shame! I was hoping their make-up would be better than their skincare. Thank you for sharing! :D

Oh no Ashwathy that’s terrible! I hope you’re not using it anymore! I had a few bumps on my cheeks but I’m not sure if it was caused from something else. I stopped using it and the bumps have pretty much cleared which is great!

Oh my word Sara, I love Lush. Where in Bahrain can we get our lovely greedy little hands on them?

      Hi Martie!
Nice to hear we both have the same obsession with Lush! There’s an Instagram account (@bh_lush) that sells Lush products. I’m pretty sure you can even request for them to order specific products for you. You can WhatsApp them on the following number: 33100693.
      Have a great day!
